With more than 20 years of business and marketing experience, Steven Renata has a storied history at Les Mills International and is known as one of the world's most experienced group fitness professionals. As a leader and as a person, he strives each day to find the MANA in life, a quest to identify the heritage of relationships and the elements that create reciprocity over time.
As a founding shareholder, Renata was one of the original employees of Les Mills International and was part of the first group of master trainers who exhibited the Les Mills' BODYPUMP® and other programs around the world in several countries beginning in the mid-1990s.
Since 1995, Renata has played a strategic role in the growth of the Les Mills business around the globe. He has served in a variety of senior international roles with Les Mills International, including training, global sales development and account management. In 2011, he was chosen to lead the West Coast arm of the company and was appointed CEO of Les Mills West Coast.
At the helm of Les Mills West Coast, Renata has increased the agency's market share by 25 percent; increased program share by 30 percent; significantly increased staff engagement, as well as established an extremely valuable corporate partnership with 24 Hour Fitness to introduce several Les Mills' programs in more than 400 facilities nationwide.
Born in Kawakawa, New Zealand, Renata prides himself on his Maori and Pakeha heritage. By receiving his bachelor's degree in marketing with honors in 1994, he became one of the first Maori graduates from University of Otago. Renata began his career in Maori tourism at Auckland University of Technology.
A powerful proponent of all things fitness, health and wellness, Renata was a Rugby Representative for New Zealand schools and has competed in IRONMAN triathlons. In 1999, he set the Guinness World Record for indoor stationary cycling. Renata is a certified BODYATTACK®, BODYFLOW®, RPM® and BODYPUMP® instructor, who continues to teach a weekly RPM® class in San Francisco.
Married to a fellow Les Mills tribe member, Renata and his wife, Susan, welcomed their daughter Grace in 2008. In his spare time, Renata enjoys cycling outdoors, playing guitar and experiencing the fine wine of Northern California.
Steve performed the haka, a traditional Maori tribal dance, on international TV before the start of the America's Cup Finals this year.
